Level/Map Installation Instructions
This section is designed to help new Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy players download, install and play custom single player levels/maps. If you're new to playing add-on levels, be sure to read everything in the appropriate game section, as it will walk you through the entire process of installing and launching your level or map.
Dark Forces
Once you have selected a level you wish to play, download the level's *.zip archive from our server. This file is a compressed archive typically containing several files inside, including the level itself, readme documentation, and any additional files needed to play the level. For Dark Forces levles, the *.gob files generally go in the Dark Forces root directory. So if you installed Dark Forces in C:\Dark, that's where you would put the file. To run a custom level, you need to start Dark Forces with some modifications. At the Dark Forces command prompt, you need to type "dark -u levelname.gob", where "levelname.gob" is the name of the level file you want to run. An example command would look something like this:
C:\Dark> dark -u levelname.gob
Many Dark Forces levels also come with custom cutscene and/or briefing *.lfd files that need to be swapped with the original versions of these files in your C:\Dark\lfd directory. Fortunately, almost all levels that have *.lfd's also have batch files that do all the work of copying and replacing for you. In those cases, just put each file from the zip archive where the author specifies in the readme file and run the batch file. Everything should be prepared and Dark Forces will start automatically with the level you want play.
Jedi Knight & Mysteries of the Sith
After you find a level that catches your eye, first download the corresponding *.zip from our server. Once you have downloaded the entire file to an appropriate place on your hard disk, you will need to use Winzip or some other archive utility to extract the text and level files from the compressed *.zip file. The text file is not necessary to actually play the level, though it's usually a good idea to read up on the background and any special notes the author may have provided. The level file itself, either a *.gob for Jedi Knight or a *.goo for Mysteries of the Sith, is extracted to your Jedi Knight or Mysteries of the Sith "Episode" folder, respectively. In some cases, there are special installation instructions that require you to make certain directories in which to install the level file, which is why I emphasize again to read the author's text file -- any critical or unusual install information should be listed here. After you have the level file(s) in place, start Jedi Knight or Mysteries of the Sith as usual. Select "Single Player," then "New Game." The title of the level you downloaded should appear for selection if you have done everything correctly. Just highlight the one you want and start loading the level -- that's all there is to it!
Jedi Outcast & Jedi Academy
First, download the *.zip archive for the map you want to play to a temporary location. After the file is completely downloaded, extract the *.pk3 file for your level and place it in the "base" folder inside the "GameData" folder found in the location where you installed Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy. If you accepted the default installer options, this "base" folder will be:
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\GameData\base\
After doing so, start Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy normally and at the initial game screen, hit SHIFT+~ (that's the tilde character) to open the console. When the console is open, use the "map" command to start the level as follows:
] map levelname
The value of "levelname" should be the name of the map you want to play -- this name is usually listed by the author in the map's readme file.
